Gary is SpongeBob’s pet snail. Gary is very loyal to SpongeBob. He acts like a cat, and can often be heart meowing just like a pet cat. He is a very intelligent snail and when he is fed right he is very playful. He is most loveable when you have a cookie in your pocket, as Patrick found out when Gary followed him home and lived with him for a few days once. When he finally got the cookie out of Patrick’s pocket, Gary went straight back home to SpongeBob to live in his pineapple.

When Gary moves he leaves a big trail of slime but SpongeBob loves him just the same. He eats special food and SpongeBob has a very special way of feeding him, with a little song and dance. Gary is also a wonderful musician and once kept a swarm of wild dancing jellyfish bouncing around the pineapple happily to the beat of his song.

Since Gary is such a loyal pet and friend to SpongeBob, he sometimes tries to warn his friend and master when he thinks he will be getting into trouble. His meows become very strong and high pitched when he thinks that SpongeBob may be getting himself into a pickle.

Gary’s snail shell and huge eyes perched atop long extensions make him very loveable. His eyes will show exactly what he is feeling and thinking, especially when he becomes annoyed at his friend SpongeBob. It was learned during the episode “Rule of Thumb” that Gary came from royalty and is actually the rightful King of Bikini Bottom. Gary doesn’t care about royalty though, he just wants to live happily with SpongeBob, eat his special snail food and search pockets for cookies.
